Check the floor before blaming the motor

Meltwater can collect at the threshold and refreeze around the bottom seal. If the door starts upward and immediately stops, repeated opener attempts can damage the trolley, rail or drive components.

Look for ice along the seal from inside and outside without putting fingers under the door. Clear loose snow, warm the area safely and avoid open flames or aggressive tools that can cut the rubber.

Cold exposes existing resistance

Worn rollers, tight tracks, dry bearings and poor balance may remain tolerable in mild weather. Lower temperatures can make seals and lubricants stiffer, which adds load to an already marginal system.

Once the door is safely disconnected and controllable, a technician can check manual balance and movement. The opener should not be used to hide a heavy door by increasing force settings.
