Our Story

Started in a Driveway. Now Across Canada.

In 2019, Stan Klugman and his wife Marta started Garage Door Fix out of their Calgary home. The idea was simple, though apparently unusual for this industry: tell people the price before you show up, send your own trained technicians, and charge the same rate whether it's Tuesday at noon or Saturday at midnight.

That shouldn't have been a differentiator. In an industry built on mystery quotes, subcontractor roulette, and surprise emergency fees, it was. Customers noticed. They left reviews. Thousands of them.

Calgary came first. Edmonton opened in 2023. Saskatoon followed later that year. Every branch runs the same model, no franchises, no subcontractors, no regional variations in pricing or policy. 32,000+ completed jobs, 3,430+ five-star Google reviews, two consecutive Consumer Choice Awards. Still run by Stan and Marta. Still no investors telling us to cut corners.

Why Canadians Switch to Us

Most garage door companies operate the same way. We built ours to fix what they won't.

Price Transparency

Industry:

Most companies won't tell you the price until the technician is at your door.

Us:

We publish every price on our website. Springs: $380–$480. Cables: $250–$290. You know before you call.

No Emergency Fees

Industry:

Evening and weekend calls cost $50–$150 extra at most companies. They call it an "emergency fee."

Us:

We charge the same price at 11 PM on Saturday as 2 PM on Tuesday. Always have. Always will.

Employee Technicians

Industry:

Many companies send subcontractors — freelancers who aren't employees, aren't uniformly trained, and aren't accountable after the job.

Us:

Every Garage Door Fix technician is our employee. Named. Trained. Insured. Background-checked. You know who's coming to your home.

Written Warranties

Industry:

"We stand behind our work" is what companies say when they don't want to put the warranty in writing.

Us:

1-year warranty on all standard repairs. 5-year warranty on heavy-duty upgrades. Published on every service page. No fine print.

Canada's Only Ryterna Dealer

Industry:

Most companies sell three or four of the same North American door brands. The doors look similar, perform similarly, and get priced against each other.

Us:

We're the only authorized Ryterna dealer in Canada. Ryterna is a premium European manufacturer with insulation up to R-20, hardware engineered for Scandinavian winters, and custom designs unavailable at any other garage door company in the country.

Authorized Sommer Dealer

Industry:

Most companies install whatever opener brand the supplier promoted that month — usually LiftMaster or Chamberlain. Fine openers. Nothing special.

Us:

We're an authorized Sommer dealer. Sommer is a German-engineered opener brand with direct-drive technology — fewer moving parts than chain or belt drives, quieter operation, and a service life that typically outlasts North American openers. We supply, install, and service them.

What we won't do

Some of the most important things about this company are the things we've decided not to do, even when it would have been easier or more profitable to do them.

We won't use subcontractors

A lot of garage door companies grow by adding subcontractors to their roster. It's cheaper. It scales faster. It also means the company can't control who shows up at your door, can't guarantee their training, and can't always back the warranty if the subcontractor disappears. We'd rather grow slower with employees than faster with contractors.

We won't hide prices

The "call for a quote" model works for the company because it hides the number until the customer has already committed to the service call. It doesn't work for the customer. We publish every standard repair price on our website. If a job needs something non-standard, we'll tell you exactly what and exactly what it costs before we do it.

We won't charge emergency fees

Garage doors don't break on a schedule. They break on Saturday night, at -25°C, when you're trying to get the kids to hockey practice. Charging you more because your door broke at an inconvenient time is a tax on bad luck. We've never done it. We won't start.

We won't push replacements when repairs will do

Some companies make more margin on new door installations than on repairs, so their technicians get incentivized to recommend replacement. Ours aren't. If your door needs a $380 spring and not a $2,500 new door, that's what we'll tell you.

We won't accept investment that compromises this model

Stan and Marta have been offered investment to scale faster. They've turned it down every time because the conditions always involved subcontractor growth, dynamic pricing, or both. Family-owned means nobody can force us to change what works.

Stan and Marta Klugman, founders of Garage Door Fix
Leadership

Family-Run. Not Investor-Run.

Stan handles operations — he's the one who set the pricing policy, hired every technician personally, and still reads every single review. If something's wrong, he knows about it before the customer calls back.

Marta runs customer relations and the business side. She's the reason our follow-up process exists, why new door installs come with a hand-drawn card from their kids Liza and Mike, and why the books have been clean since day one.

There's no board of directors. No franchise fees. No investor telling us to cut corners. Every decision is made by two people who have their names — and their family's reputation — on every job.

Three Core Cities. One Standard.

Same published prices. Same employee technicians. Same no-emergency-fee policy, across every branch and the surrounding communities it serves.

How We Actually Work

No mystery. No catches. Here's the process.

1

You see the price before you call

Every service and price range is published on our website. No need to request a quote for standard repairs — the number is already there.

2

You book — we confirm

Call or book online. We confirm the price, the service, and the arrival window. If anything changes on-site, you approve it first.

3

A named technician arrives

Not a subcontractor. Our employee. You'll know their name before they knock. Same-day for most calls, including evenings and weekends.

4

Work is done, warranty is written

Repair completed, warranty documented. 1-year standard, 5-year on heavy-duty upgrades. It's on your invoice and on our website.

5

Follow-up, not disappearance

We check in after the job. If something's off, we come back. Our 32,000+ happy customers aren't a coincidence — they're a system.

About Garage Door Fix — common questions

Garage Door Fix Inc. is owned and operated by Stan and Marta Klugman, a husband-and-wife team based in Calgary, Alberta. They founded the company in 2019 and still run it directly, no investors, no franchise system, no board. Their kids Liza and Mike sometimes contribute the hand-drawn cards that ship with new door installations.

Garage Door Fix launched in Calgary in 2019 with one truck and two people. The Edmonton branch opened in 2023. The Saskatoon branch opened later the same year. As of 2026, we've completed 32,000+ jobs and earned 3,430+ five-star Google reviews across the three cities.

No. Garage Door Fix is not a franchise and has no franchise locations. Every branch, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, is owned and operated directly by Garage Door Fix Inc. Technicians at every branch are company employees, not franchisees or contractors. Pricing, warranty terms, and service standards are identical across all locations.

Garage Door Fix Inc. is headquartered at 4407 116 Ave SE #6, Calgary, AB T2Z 3Z4. The Calgary location serves as both the flagship service branch and the company's operational headquarters. Edmonton and Saskatoon operate as full-service branches reporting to Calgary.

Three things our competitors structurally cannot match: every price is published online before you call, we've never charged an emergency fee regardless of timing, and every technician is a named company employee, not a subcontractor. That's backed by 3,430+ verified Google reviews across Calgary, Edmonton, and Saskatoon, 2+ consecutive Consumer Choice Awards, BBB accreditation, and registered trademarks in both Canada and the United States. We're also Canada's only authorized Ryterna dealer and an authorized Sommer opener dealer.
